Our Fresh Produce Report

This report was updated on Wednesday 20th January for deliveries 25th - 28th January.

Orders for delivery Monday - Thursday

Order by no later than 3pm Sunday

Some specialty items like Bread & Dairy have specific order cut off times. Please check these out when placing your order.

Due to Australia Day all deliveries after Monday will be one day later than usual. Customers who usually choose Thursday delivery should choose Delivery Friday this week.

Thank you all so much for bearing with us as we chop and change the way we are delivering to you as we work around the Corona Virus and the strangeness that it has brought for all of us.

We are now back to picking up all boxes (including cardboard) as well as all packaging material on a weekly basis...

....BUT if we cannot safely separate returning boxes from orders we are yet to deliver in our vehicles .....our priority will be picking up poly boxes (please put all packaging material in your poly)....so if we take your poly and not your cardboard - please recycle the cardboard at your end that week.

Returned boxes and packaging material are being cleaned, stored and re-used in due course. Please let me assure everyone that we are taking the cleaning and storing process very seriously at our end to protect our own family (including staff) and yours (our extended Lettuce family).

We are all still well....none of our family (including staff) have come into direct contact with any person carrying the virus and we are following strict procedures at our end to limit the chance that our team are exposed to the virus.

Our warehouse is still not open to the public at all and Couriers delivering stock to us are not coming inside our warehouse. We are following all of the guidelines provided to us by the World Health Organisation aswell as our Government to reduce any potential exposure to COVID-19.

Take care everyone,

Emma for Ben Slade and Cheryl & Bob Stuart

Please take note:

  • No additions of changes to orders will be accepted after 3pm each Sunday.
  • Sensible Substitution will be made at our end if items are short or not available unless you advise otherwise.
  • Favourite orders (for recurring order customers) will be placed as early as Thursday. If you change your order after we have placed it on your behalf please send a new order to us (before the cut off) - we will know which one we have placed and delete it.

GROCERY SPECIAL: Melrose – Liquid Castile Soaps – 10% off all of January
Melrose Organic Castile Soaps are pure and simple. It can be used as an everyday body wash, as a gentle cleanser for hands or even for cleaning laundry. Castile Soap is especially great for dry, itchy, irritated or sensitive skin; it also works well on oily skin and acne by helping balance oil production and preventing the clogging of pores.

  • As many of you have already seen on our instagram we are testing the waters on a new fresh logo (thank you Kate McKay). We thought we would show it to you now so that when it appears on our new website (a month or so away from being rolled out to some delivery areas) you will all know that nothing has changed at our end – same family, doing the same things we have been doing for over 2 decades. For anyone wondering, Lettuce head isn’t going anywhere – the smiley face has been with us for 21 years and is known far and wide – let’s face it he is quite unforgettable! Our new logo will run alongside our Lettuce head.

  • Now to the fruit & veg...not much to say here as everything has been so good!

  • Nashi’s from Gecko were stand outs this week in the fruit department as were the new season Gala Apples – they don’t have much colour but have a good flavour and an almighty crunch. Pippin (a heritage variety of apples) have also been delicious – if you like a tart apple.

  • KP Mango season is coming to a quick end with a week or two left of supply – Mangoes R Us have finished their KP’s, only very small fruit available from here on in coming from Bauer Farm in QLD. The last variety of Mangoes - Keitt are starting this week - these are a slighty tangy mango with a very skinny seed...delicious. These are at the other side of the spectrum – with all fruit being on the larger side – Size 12. Overdoes everyone – Mango season is almost over!

  • Peach season is in full swing – now $14 for a full kilo of magnificent Biodynamic fruit from Green Gables...Treat yourself.

  • A quick note about the Second Quality Stonefruit - from one week to another we have no idea how many will be available.....so, please make a note with your order if you would like us to replace your order of Seconds with First quality fruit should the Seconds not be available.

  • Lychees and Figs back on the list this week.

  • Locally grown Corn now available from Charlie & Vic Galea....always the best!

  • Celery quality was a little better this week...but some bunches still have brown rot through the centres. We are cutting some centres out, while others are being cut out on farm – others are perfectly fine....please check the inside of your bunch – just in case (the break down is hard to see with tightly formed bunches)....if you do have any stems in the centre that have started to deteriorate it is best to remove them sooner rather than later....This problem does not look as though it will go away soon....know what to expect.....

  • Purple Cauliflower, Butter Lettuce and Kipfler Potatoes back on the list this week.

  • Coolibah Herbs has experienced a hail storm in the last few days which has badly affected their Baby Spinach....at this stage we are not sure if there will be supply week starting the 25th. If we are not able to supply Baby Spinach we will sub to bunches of English Spinach (quality has been superb) – unless of course you advise otherwise.

  • Veges generally speaking have been fantastic – stand outs being Red Capsicum, Small Cauliflower, English Spinach, Locally grown Herbs (Mixed Bunches are an absolute bargain – 3 varieties of the best herbs of the week), Cabbage – all varieties, Carrots, Lebanese Cucumber, Russian Garlic, Dutch Cream Potatoes, Shallots and Petite Cherry Tomatoes.

  • Please return our boxes, icepacks and plastic boxes containing soft fruits and veges! These can be used over and over again if treated with care. We also welcome the return of all other packaging material that may find it's way into your order, egg cartons, bubble wrap, lettuce, strawberry and cherry tomato punnets aswell as spinach boxes, etc. I know many are sceptical about the recycling of goods through local councils....but please be assured we deliver all of the packaging material we use (when the end of their life is upon us) into Sydney Markets where recycling is a big business.....

  • Did you know we have Recipe Packages, also simply known as Meal Inspiration for those of us preparing dinner for the fam each evening...Head to our Meal Inspiration Page to find this week's selection of Recipe inspirations. We know you all have things in your pantry like Olive Oil so with our packages you can simply add the package to your cart and then delete any goodies you don't require. So simple !

We have updated our website with the most up to date and accurate information available to us at this time, but due to many factors including that most of the produce is yet to be picked there is of course some uncertainty with our expected supply. The good news is that we have quite a few supply options available to us and so we may list a Grower on our site that does not end up supplying us goodies this week. Rest assured we only deal in Certified Organic, Australian Grown Fruit and Veges - so any replacements we may supply to you from other Aussie Growers will also be grown in line with the National Organic Standard. You don't have to take our word for it... Lettuce Deliver is also a Certified Organic Retailer (NASAA Retailer R9291) which means that we have to be able to prove any claims we make about a products organic status at a moment's notice : )

PLEASE RETURN OUR BOXES

Please return our boxes, icepacks and plastic boxes containing soft fruits and veges! These can be used over and over again if treated with care. We also welcome the return of all other packaging material that may find it's way into your order, egg cartons, bubble wrap, lettuce and spinach boxes, etc. I know many are sceptical about the recycling of goods through local councils....but please be assured we deliver all of the packaging material we use (when the end of their life is upon us) into Sydney Markets where recycling is a big business.....Please leave all these goodies in your returning boxes out for our drivers to collect on your next delivery.

MILK

...in many cases the Milk we offer you needs to be pre-ordered at our end a week in advance. Most of the time our guess- timates are spot on...but we have been caught out on the odd occasion. We do have a number of Dairy options available to us and so if we run short  on some varieties, we may look to others to fill the gap. If you would like us to supply ONLY the milk you have ordered or nothing at all, please make a note with your order.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

As you know, we charge your credit card for your delivery total on the day of or day after your delivery. Please ensure that we have your up to date credit card details and that there are sufficient funds available on the day of your delivery for us to process your payment.
