Our Fresh Produce Report

This report was updated on Wednesday 23rd September for deliveries 28th Sep - 1st Oct 2020

Orders for delivery Monday - Thursday:
Order by no later than 1pm Sunday.

Some specialty items like Bread & Dairy have specific order cut off times. Please check these out when placing your order.

Thank you all so much for bearing with us over the last few months as we chopped and changed the way we have been delivering to you as we worked around the Corona Virus and the strangeness that it brought for all of us.

We are now back to picking up all boxes (including cardboard) as well as all packaging material on a weekly basis...

....BUT if we cannot safely separate returning boxes from orders we are yet to deliver in our vehicles .....our priority will be picking up poly boxes (please put all packaging material in your poly)....so if we take your poly and not your cardboard - please recycle the cardboard at your end that week.

Returned boxes and packaging material are being cleaned, stored and re-used in due course. Please let me assure everyone that we are taking the cleaning and storing process very seriously at our end to protect our own family (including staff) and yours (our extended Lettuce family).

We are all still well....none of our family (including staff) have come into direct contact with any person carrying the virus and we are following strict procedures at our end to limit the chance that our team are exposed to the virus.

Our warehouse is still not open to the public at all and Couriers delivering stock to us are not coming inside our warehouse. We are following all of the guidelines provided to us by the World Health Organisation aswell as our Government to reduce any potential exposure to COVID-19.

Take care everyone,

Emma for Ben Slade and Cheryl & Bob Stuart

Please take note:

  • No additions of changes to orders will be accepted after 1pm each Sunday.
  • Sensible Substitution will be made at our end if items are short or not available unless you advise otherwise.
  • Favourite orders (for recurring order customers) will be placed as early as Thursday. If you change your order after we have placed it on your behalf please send a new order to us (before the cut off) - we will know which one we have placed and delete it.

  • Heading into the end of the Winter Fruit season is always a worry - The fruit is aging, and the weather warming up..... Remember to store your Navel Oranges, Apples & Mandarins  in the fridge to prolong life. Don't forget that all fruit should now be closely inspected upon arrival - especially 3kg bags of Navel Oranges. Being inside a bag, one problematic orange can send others bad at lightning speed if trapped without ventilation. This time of the year always presents a few random problems, as the Winter fruit is so close to coming to an end. Any major problems lettuce know. ....Hang in there ! This time of the year is always a little difficult  in terms of quality fruit availability..The Summer fruit season is still quite a few weeks from starting and the winter fruit is looking a little tired. We always receive a lot of enquiries around this time of the year as to when the Summer fruits will start …..We all wonder if we can eat another piece of citrus! Eating seasonally is very much about overdosing while items are available and then just when you feel that you have had all that you can handle – the season comes to an abrupt end ! By the time the new season comes around again we have all forgotten about the way we felt at the end of the season and welcome it again with open arms ! The good news is that soon enough our fruit bowls will be overflowing with Summer fruits...in fact KP Mangoes are starting Monday the 28th...but like the beginning of every Mango season I have seen - 21 - they will be green as grass....so we will bring on to the list for week starting Monday the 5th.
  • Pick in the apples is still the Sundowner from Forest Orchards and the Gala from Smith in
    Tassie....
  • Blueberries, Rhubarb, Hass Avocadoes, Seedless Watermelon Cavendish Bananas, Passionfruit, Black Sapote  & Strawberries were great this week.
  • Cauliflower & Broccoli season from Gary and Kathy Harm is drawing to a close. I'm sure you will agree the veg has been amazing. As we approach end of season, you will find the QLD Cauli's are smaller and not as crisp as they have been...they are now feeling a little rubbery in the warmer weather. Don't let this put you off, QLD Cauli's will only be available for another few weeks and once cooked, you would never know.
  • New season Italian Garlic has been great - Order with confidence. Russian Garlic on the other hand is still 'old season' and is looking a little rough with some cloves a little discoloured, while others are developing a sprout through the centre as the garlic is wanting to grow again. If you can get past the look of the Russian - flavour is still good.
  • Asparagus price has taken a nose dive - $6.50 per bunch this week.....so good for you, not to mention so easy to prepare - I personally love it pan fried with butter and then right at the end I add a piece of Barambah Sliced Cheddar which melts over the top of the spears! Yum!
  • Generally speaking quality of the veg we have on offer is fantastic - Stand outs this week were Dutch Carrots, Brussels Sprouts (although most are requiring stripping back due to black spot), Snowpeas, Celery, Kale - all varieties, Dandelion, Baby English Spinach PP, Zucchini, Jap Pumpkin, Leeks (although really small), Cherry Tomatoes and Lebanese Cucumber (which is finally coming down in price).
  • Please return our boxes, icepacks and plastic boxes containing soft fruits and veges! These can be used over and over again if treated with care. We also welcome the return of all other packaging material that may find it's way into your order, egg cartons, bubble wrap, lettuce, strawberry and cherry tomato punnets aswell as spinach boxes, etc. I know many are sceptical about the recycling of goods through local councils....but please be assured we deliver all of the packaging material we use (when the end of their life is upon us) into Sydney Markets where recycling is a big business.....Please leave all these goodies in your returning boxes out for our drivers to collect on your next delivery. If our drivers are not picking up your boxes please lettuce know.

  • Did you know we have Recipe Packages, also simply known as Meal Inspiration for those of us preparing dinner for the fam each evening...Head to our Meal Inspiration Page to find this week's selection of Recipe inspirations. We know you all have things in your pantry like Olive Oil so with our packages you can simply add the package to your cart and then delete any goodies you don't require. So simple !

We have updated our website with the most up to date and accurate information available to us at this time, but due to many factors including that most of the produce is yet to be picked there is of course some uncertainty with our expected supply. The good news is that we have quite a few supply options available to us and so we may list a Grower on our site that does not end up supplying us goodies this week. Rest assured we only deal in Certified Organic, Australian Grown Fruit and Veges - so any replacements we may supply to you from other Aussie Growers will also be grown in line with the National Organic Standard. You don't have to take our word for it... Lettuce Deliver is also a Certified Organic Retailer (NASAA Retailer R9291) which means that we have to be able to prove any claims we make about a products organic status at a moment's notice : )

PLEASE RETURN OUR BOXES

Please return our boxes, icepacks and plastic boxes containing soft fruits and veges! These can be used over and over again if treated with care. We also welcome the return of all other packaging material that may find it's way into your order, egg cartons, bubble wrap, lettuce and spinach boxes, etc.

MILK

...in many cases the Milk we offer you needs to be pre-ordered at our end a week in advance. Most of the time our guess- timates are spot on...but we have been caught out on the odd occasion. We do have a number of Dairy options available to us and so if we run short  on some varieties, we may look to others to fill the gap. If you would like us to supply ONLY the milk you have ordered or nothing at all, please make a note with your order.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

As you know, we charge your credit card for your delivery total on the day of or day after your delivery. Please ensure that we have your up to date credit card details and that there are sufficient funds available on the day of your delivery for us to process your payment.
